Our dedication to raising the healthiest and most nutritious beef cattle
possible stems from our own personal desire to improve our health when
we discovered that store-bought meat literally made us ill.
On our 92-acre farm, we follow intensive
grazing techniques we learned from the University of Missouri Extension
Office's Management Intensive Grazing School, and we try to stay current
on the very best practices in grazing and herd health so we can minimize
or eliminate the use of antibiotics on our farm. We try very hard
to keep our meat as natural as possible.
On one occasion
we had a hurt animal and had to use antibiotics; we just put that meat
in our own freezer instead of selling it. Our beef is raised as close to
organic as possible, with no hormones, no steroids and no antibiotics.
We are honest people who work hard so that others can also eat
good-tasting, healthy beef at a reasonable price. In St. Louis we could
market our beef as "vegetarian," since they are grass-fed on pasture and
grain-finished (90 days of grain). This makes our beef technically
grass-fed by definition. We raise calm cows, since flighty animals are
dangerous to our family. And we know that calm cows taste better!
I like to say our beef is raised by our family for your family, because
we really do have a family farm. Our children raise the bottle calves to
show at the Salem Fair (Dent Co. Fall Festival) along with their 4-H
projects, while I exhibit my canned goods and produce. The kids now
currently own about half of our animals. As their bottle calves get
older, they market them to individuals for sale, and so the kids get the
profits and can buy more calves to repeat the process. Our children are
a big help on the farm. Their investment of time and loving care
toward their animals goes a long way to generate a peaceful herd of
cattle.

We have invested our lives in healthy living
and producing the best possible beef so that you, too, can enjoy a more
wholesome product when you purchase and enjoy our meat products.
Our best to you!
